To Future IAM
Members:
We
at Local Lodge 2203 would like to invite you to join us, to make your
workplace better. It's clear -- union-represented workers across
the nation enjoy better average wages and benefits, better and safer
working conditions, and rights that non-union workers simply do not
have. We believe that all people from all types of work places deserve
the right to have union representation on the job. You have the right
to a voice in your workplace..
We
are here to assist and support you in every way we can. But it is up
to you and your co-workers to make your organizing campaign
successful. After all, you are the ones who know the issues that
have either impaired you in doing your job or have stripped away the
dignity and respect that you deserve.
Why Have a Union?
A recent ad on
television by AARP makes the case for having and joining a union. It
shows one person sitting before a board of directors and this person
is basically telling the board what she thinks should be done and they
in turn agree to do those things. A voice then follows and says "If it
was that simple we wouldn't need AARP. The basic message is to get
legislators to listen to the working men and women of this country a
strong voice must speak for them and in the case of working men and
women unions are that strong voice. Unions can not perform this
essential task without funding and that comes from the rank and file
member dues. The louder the voice the better the chance of getting
worker friendly legislation and regulations enacted. The higher
percentage of working men and women who are members the louder the
voice. It's that simple. The last few years have seen manufacturing
move overseas and along with them jobs that could be performed here in
this country. There has been a move by the current administration to
eliminate overtime pay for certain civil service jobs. This
administration is engaging in a not so subtle form of union busting by
insisting that the new Department of Homeland Security not have proper
representation of it work force by unions. This is only the beginning.
We could see the day when we return back to the pre-union times of
long work hours, low pay, little or no paid benefits and no worker
rights. Do not wait till its too late. Join now. Join the fight for
worker rights.
